Michael grew up in Coaldale, Alberta. He enjoyed sports and played basketball and football in high school. Michael then went on to spend 2 years as a Christian Missionary in various places including India and Singapore. Michael then attended Lethbridge College for a semester before transferring to the University of Alberta where he first studied Political Science and History and then got his law degree. After graduating from law school, Michael articled at a local Lethbridge law firm where he spent much of his time focused on complex transactional work and real estate. Michael has since worked at two other law firms before joining Stringam LLP in September of 2016.

Michael has extensive experience in family law. He has dealt with divorce, separation, parenting, access, child support, spousal support, and grandparents rights. Michael understands the various legal mechanisms that can be used to resolve family law issues and he has the experience necessary to know when those mechanisms should be utilized. He has participated in Judicial Dispute Resolutions, Mediations, Special Chambers Applications, and Questionings. He has conducted trials at both the Court of Queen’s Bench and Provincial Court. He knows how to get the results that will make a lasting difference to your peace of mind.
Michael has been closing real estate transactions for his entire legal career. He knows how to explain in everyday language what the various documents mean and he has the expertise to differentiate between a mere blip on the radar and what constitutes a real problem. Michael also has experience in working with his clients, real estate agents, municipalities, and other lawyers to assure that any issues are dealt with promptly and decisively. Michael has helped clients buy and sell everything from single family homes, to acreages, condominiums, and cabins.
Michael has worked with businesses of all sizes to help them reach their goals. Whether it’s purchasing a new piece of equipment, transitioning the structure of a business for tax purposes, selling the assets or shares of a business, or finding financing to buyout a retiring owner, Michael has the background and experience to make the transaction easy and straightforward. Because of this experience clients’ have come to trust Michael’s judgement as they come to various decision points in their business. Michael has consulted with a number of his clients as to what the next best step is for them, and their business. Michael’s focus is always to find creative solutions that help his client’s to reach their goals and protect their business.
Michael is very focused on his family at this stage of his life. He and his wife have six children and the majority of their free time is spent carting children from one activity to another. When he can get them away for the weekend Michael loves taking his children to the many wonderful historical sites in southern Alberta such as Frank Slide, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, the Tyrell Museum, Writing on Stone Provincial Park and the Galt Museum. In the summer, they can also be found out at the lake enjoying their beautiful and all too brief season of nice weather.
When he can get away for an evening, Michael enjoys taking his wife to live sporting events as well as live theatre. He enjoys watching high school sports and is an enthusiastic supporter of both high school basketball and football. In addition, Michael can often be found taking in live theatre performances. He has enjoyed everything from the Junior High and High School plays and local theatre company’s to touring Broadway productions.
Michael also believes in getting involved in the community. Michael is currently a volunteer with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra and is on the Board of Directors for the Medicine Hat- Cardston-Warner Conservative Constituency Association. In the past, Michael was a board member for both the men’s and women’s’ shelters in Whitecourt, Alberta, where he practiced before joining Stringam LLP.
