Ian grew up in Medicine Hat. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Lethbridge, followed by a J.D. from the Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2017. His practice consist mainly of civil and criminal litigation and family law.
Ian has gained experience in a broad range of practice areas, including real estate, corporate/commercial, wills and estates, family and divorce, civil litigation, and criminal matters. Although he maintains a general practice, incorporating these areas, he primarily focuses on three main areas:
Ian has experience representing clients involved in disputes about contracts, commercial and business matters, debts, property, agricultural arrangements, and other matters. He enjoys the challenge of guiding clients through complicated and emotional situations and resolving such situations in a satisfying way for his clients. He considers it a privilege to provide clients with peace of mind when facing difficult situations.
Divorce & Family Law
Ian also has experience helping clients facing difficult family situations. This includes divorce, spousal support, child support, mobility applications, marriage and divorce contracts, and other issues. He enjoys dealing with people and helping them with what is often the most important issues in their lives.
Ian also has experience representing clients charged with criminal offences. He understands how clients can feel overwhelmed, intimidated, confused, or lost when facing such a serious situation. He is able to guide clients through the process of dealing with charges and has been able to achieve satisfying resolutions for his clients.
Outside the office, Ian can often be found cooking and eating delicious food, reading and writing, watching and writing about film and cinema, playing basketball and following the NBA, and camping and hiking with his wife and two children. He has also been involved with Scouts Canada and he enjoys attending and participating in community events and programs.
