Denis was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, raised in Ottawa, Ontario and returned to the Maritimes in his late teens. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick at Saint John in 2008, and a Bachelor of Laws from the Université de Moncton in 2011. Prior to moving to Grande Prairie, Denis articled at a large provincial firm where he focused primarily on complex malpractice litigation and criminal defence work. Once called to the New Brunswick Bar, Denis worked solely in the field of Federal Prosecutions as a standing agent for the Attorney General of Canada for the jurisdiction of Moncton, NB.
Denis has practiced law in Grande Prairie since 2012 and his practice now focuses on Criminal Law, Quasi-Criminal matters such as Traffic Enforcement and Real Estate. Denis has and continues to assist clients in a wide variety of matters ranging from simple traffic matters to much more serious matters such as aggravated assault, simple assaults as well impaired driving convictions. Given his experience he is often relied upon to advise on issues such as license suspensions as well as assisting other members of the firm in relation to Criminal Matters. In regards to matters concerning Real Estate, Denis has and continues to act for first time home buyers in the area, relocations to the Peace Region as well on behalf of client selling property in the area.
He appears regularly in the Court of Queen’s Bench, Provincial Court and Commissioners Court. Denis is also fully bilingual and can assist client’s in French.
Denis’ community work includes but is not limited to the following;

· Current Board Member of the Grande Prairie SPCA
· Former Board Member of the Grande Prairie Minor Baseball Association
· Derek enjoys sports (particularly coaching and playing baseball) and spending time with his wife and young puppy.
